Where every Indian recipe starts
Almost every Indian recipe begins with some combination of these five. Turmeric for colour and earthiness. Garam masala for warmth at the end. Red chilli for heat you control. Cumin for the tempering that starts most dishes. Dhana jeera for the base almost every curry is built on.
Have questions?
Is this enough to actually cook with, or is it a sampler?
t's a real supply. The pouches kit holds 475g of spice, which is roughly 30 to 40 meals depending on what you cook.
What's the difference between this and the Indian Spice Box?
The Kit is the starting point: five spices, from $27.95. The Indian Spice Box adds two more spices (cloves and cardamom), a traditional masala dabba and a spoon, for $62.95. Most people start with the Kit and move up to the Box, or buy the Box as a gift.
Are these spicy?
Only the red chilli powder. The other four are aromatic rather than hot, so you control the heat.
How long will they last?
Ground spices are best within about six months, whole cumin seeds within a year. Keep them airtight and out of direct light.
